Those who focus on the outdoors win, even in the tourist industry

Immersion in the landscape is the vital component for new holidays. If outdoor activities and accommodation facilities surrounded by nature have represented an emerging type of travel over the past five years, then the latest tourist season has definitively sanctioned the success of the outdoors by transforming it from an optional to a decisive element when choosing the accommodation.

The markets with the fastest growth these days are eco-resorts, wine relais, glamping and small boutique hotels which are surrounded by greenbelt land. Elements such as contact with the landscape, wide open and safe spaces, tranquillity and above all privacy combined with “all inclusive” services which are normally typical of a hotel are helping to drive the increase in demand.

It therefore doesn’t come as a surprise that these structures are destined to remain the focal point holiday trends, as they uncover a new way of promoting tourism.

The first of the recent trends comes from the Bubble Travel, which views the tranquillity of spaces reserved for single travel groups as a fundamental prerequisite. Tourists prefer outdoor activities and structures with large outdoor spaces as part of this objective or prefer the option of staying privately and being surrounded by nature, such as in apartments and glamping.

Another alternative is represented by Revenge Luxury Travel. The preferred destinations here are elegant resorts on the coast, wine relais surrounded by greenbelt land and refined boutique hotels, where the landscape, luxury and well-being are the main ingredients of a holiday which is primarily geared towards relaxation. It is a type of revenge or a reward following the most intense periods dedicated to work and family commitments.

A real boost is added by Workation which seems to help people become happy and productive, and allows professionals and digital nomads to work from all over the world. Any requests? Well, all-inclusive services and quiet and relaxing locations which are almost “out of this world”, where you can carry out your work tasks in comfortable surroundings.

And finally, Eco-Friendly travel continues to grow exponentially. The destinations are respectful of the natural heritage and structures, respect levels of sustainability and have been majorly rewarded throughout the last tourist season. It is a trend which is also confirmed by Alberto Yates, Booking Regional Manager of Italia di Booking in a recent interview with Sole 24 Ore

The surveys carried out by the booking site among the most used in the world have shown that 92% of Italian travellers think that travelling in a sustainable way is crucially important, while 57% say that the pandemic has increased the desire to travel in a more sustainable manner in the future.

The demand for the outdoors, sustainability and safety is in fact encouraging even more structures to enhance their outdoor areas and centralise as part of theirhospitality package through a redesign which allows people benefit from every experience both outdoors and throughout the year. Awnings and bioclimatic pergolas provide the Ho.Re.Ca. with an opportunity to implement the potential of any outdoor environment: cutting-edge and customised solutions are always able to create both versatile and distinctive locations.
